Banking and insurance
Let's face it, whether it be in the public or private sector, in business, in construction, in real estate or even in the family, banks and insurance are part and parcel of everyday life.
GSJ advocaten has for many years been monitoring changes and developments in banking and insurance law.
Whether it be bank loans or investment products involving private clients or companies, either through branches or through a network of independent brokers, GSJ can handle any situation when the going gets tough.
GSJ advocaten has comprehensive knowledge of the many facets of banking and insurance that matter most to you: financial legislation, consumer protection, cooperation between banks and their intermediaries (independent or otherwise) and the regulations of the supervisory authority. In addition, our teams are trained to handle issues connected with dispute resolution in these areas, either through the appropriate ombudsman services or through the courts.
There are many different types of insurance policy: non-life insurance, liability insurance, legal expenses insurance, life insurance, etc., each of which has a specific legal regime. Insurance law is becoming increasingly complex and legalistic with every passing day. GSJ and its team of lawyers are there to assist insurance companies and insured parties (companies and private clients) not only with potentially complicated disputes but also with issues connected with risk and policy analysis.
Insurance intermediaries have a special role to play in the insurance world. They sell the policies and, in the event of a claim, form an indispensable link between the company and the insured party. This is where GSJ's team of lawyers can be of assistance, as professional practices are governed by increasingly complex regulations that can be difficult to interpret and navigate.
GSJ’s teams of lawyers are also actively involved in various insurance associations, such as the Kempische Verzekeringskring, the Verzekeringsjuristen and the Antwerpse Kring van het Verzekeringswezen.
On 26 September 2014, the Antwerp Liability Law and Insurance Chair (ALLIC) was established in the University of Antwerp. This Chair in Liability and Insurance Law is an initiative of Prof. Dr. Thierry Vansweevelt and Prof. Dr. Britt Weyts. GSJ advocaten has agreed to sponsor the Chair and are in fact on the steering committee.
